Many who are seeking are completely satisfied with the misery that keeps the search going. They may claim otherwise with words and seeming actions, yet when it comes right down to it, they wouldn’t trade their misery for complete and utter peace, why?
The reason is that when faced with the source of suffering, and being told that this source of suffering is who they believe they are, the mind immediately balks at the notion that there is no “me” there. “Sure, if it’s a “me” that I can get rid of, then I’ll do it”, yet to be totally devoid of any identity terrifies the ego, ie, the thought pattern that keeps that dream alive.
If you want peace for yourself, you won’t find it, because you are trying to put a bandage on a shadow. Step back and see that the shadow is false, and the only real peace is who You truly Are. Right now, in this moment, there is no fear, no suffering, it’s only when we stop and thinking starts taking hold, memories of what is “wrong” come up, and they are bought into by a belief system that was never chosen. Now behind all of this, prior to these thoughts, there is a peaceful calm that knows no burdens of this type, it is clear, open, and free; only in thought are we prisoners.
Look right now at that from which you are trying to escape, that feeling of being trapped, or that life is coming down on top of you, what is it that knows that? What is the Knowing of that? There’s nothing to attain to be that because You Are That right now. Don’t get frustrated, but if you do get frustrated, then see what it is that knows the frustration? It’s not that “I” thought that, because that’s just more passing experience, but what You Are is no experience, it is that which knows the experience.
In moments of peace and moments of turmoil, You Are the knowingness of that peace or turmoil. That’s why searching for it always leads to frustration, because it’s not hidden. It’s only a thought process that says “I am missing something, and I’ve got to find it.” That’s the old hamster wheel and nothing will ever be gained from that. Who You Are is prior to any appearance of gain or loss. These words can only point back to the Source, there must be a seeing of this. This will either happen or it won’t, but if by grace it happens, then there’ll be a seeing of what has always been.
If you are sad, who is sad? Is that you that is sad, or is there merely sadness and a knowing of the sadness? This is really not two different things, for without the knowing, there would be no apparent sadness, happiness, or anything else. You are not an entity that knows, but the very knowing itself. The belief in being an entity, separate and apart from the world, and the belief in a world that is separate is what has always caused all of the problems.
You Are the knowing that You Are, it is plain and simple, and needs nothing added to it to Be. Any deep thinking on this will really only make it look like a chore to do, and we go right back on the hamster wheel, never to be free, always chasing the tail.
